Seattle Contemporary

This Seattle garden is a reflection and an extension of the materials and geometry of the contemporary house at its heart. The entry court is paved in gravel and framed by honey locust and sumac trees.  In the back garden a stone tiled terrace (mirrored from the front) extends into a plane of lawn framed by a translucent railing of frosted glass panels. From the lawn, a folded steel staircase ripples up the slope to the sun terrace. From this terrace, three concrete runnels slide down the slope through a grove of bamboo, then end by pouring water down heavy chains into ceramic pots. Sculpture from the client’s collection was used in the garden and brings more of the interior aesthetic outside.
