This garden makes use of its tricky hillside lot with a series of terraced garden spaces. The entry path is flanked by a formal lawn on one side and a raised dining terrace on the other. The shape of the lawn echoes the architecture of the house. Four tall stately planters frame the lawn, helping to define the space and adding contrast to the basalt in color and texture. Opposite the lawn a stone stairway climbs to the dining terrace and a generous stone fireplace, the perfect place to entertain on summer evenings. Near the front door a small circular sitting area paved in gravel and surrounded by cool lush planting provides a more private and informal retreat.
