A Hillside Garden for Outdoor Living Portland, Oregon This garden was built for an existing farmhouse-style home on a sloping site. The design features a series of terraces moving down the slope. On the upper level, a copper-roofed dining pavilion with a fireplace and slender columns sits beside a small sun terrace. From the sun terrace steps descend to the middle level, where a small circular lawn, brick paving, and a covered spa rest beside a rectangular swimming pool aligned with the dining pavilion. The roof over the spa is detailed to match the dining pavilion. From the retaining wall supporting the pavilion, three stone troughs spill water into the swimming pool. North of the pool, a long sloped walkway of lawn flanked by colorful planting beds climbs back up to the upper level. Further north, another larger lawn sits outside of the family room. A wrought-iron spiral staircase descends to the lawn and orchard on the lower level. |
